On Friday, April 1 at 10 am leaders from Weiser Memorial Hospital and the City of Weiser, along with donors, media, and community members, will gather to officially
commemorate the opening of a new free community outdoor gym. The new gym space is in City Park near the corner of Liberty and East 4th Streets.
This grand opening event is FREE, and the public is encouraged to stop by anytime between 10 am and 2 pm to help celebrate. There will be people on hand to answer questions, give demos, and offer free blood pressure checks. Refreshments will also be provided.
The outdoor gym includes 6 pieces of double-sided gym equipment. Each piece of equipment is usable by up to 2 people at a time and are user-friendly for a wide range of fitness levels. The public is welcome to use the equipment on their own, as a group, or with their personal trainers. Teams and coaches are encouraged to incorporate this space into their training programs.
Weiser Memorial Hospital led the effort to provide this exercise space free to the community as a tool to help everyone be more active and make healthy choices.“Placing gym equipment in the park, near the playground, provides opportunity for so many different people to work out. Parents and caregivers can watch their children play while they exercise, people can take breaks from work and come get a few reps in, and others can simply stop for a few minutes while walking by,” said Kasey Davis, Marketing and Community Relations Manager for Weiser Memorial Hospital.
The City of Weiser saw the benefits, both right away and long term for our community. Mayor Randy Hibberd commented: “The City receives many requests for different features to be placed in the parks. The City Council chose this one because it can be used by people of all ages and can have enormous health benefits.”
Large donations from the employees at Weiser Memorial Hospital and Steve’s Hometown Motors combined with donations from the Weiser Memorial Hospital Foundation, Mayor Hibberd, St. Agnes Catholic Church, and the Weiser Lions Club fully funded the purchase of the equipment and the pouring of a cement slab. City employees have also been integral in the completion of this project. A sign was purchased to provide information on how to use the equipment, upcoming health events, and healthy tips.
Please join us for the grand opening and then return again and again for fresh air and exercise!
