Local organization LOR Foundation has been busy for the last two years helping to procure funds and grants for small projects across the Weiser area through the city, schools and organizations. Monday, February 10th at the Weiser City Council meeting Natasha McDaniel, Weiser City Clerk, shared some of the ways the LOR Foundation has helped with funding for city projects and improvements.
The following is a list shared at the meeting:
Cat Trap Neuter & Release Program (TNR) $9,991.00: This program is for the trapping of feral cats to spay and or neuter them and then release them. The hope is that this program will reduce the population and control disease in the community.
Baseball field improvement $9,600.00: This project was for the purchase and installation of conditioner to soften the clay so fields are safe to run and slide on.
Recreation Expansion $17,528.00: This funding went towards the purchasing of sports equipment for the youth in the community so that they can safely participate in recreational sports.
LIONS Concession Air Conditioner $5,685.00: This funding was to purchase an air conditioning unit for the concession booth at Memorial Park.
Bridge to Bridge $19,774.00: This project is upcoming. The plan is to create a pathway for walkers and bikers that will run along the river from the city pond to Mortimers Island and then to the Oregon/Idaho bridge.
Pond & Pathway Triptych $6,500.00: This is an upcoming project that will be at the future pathways entrance at the pond and Mortimers Island. They are mosaic Triptych boards/signs that share information on the local animal species and native plants in that area. The signs will be created by two local artists.
Police K-9 safety equipment $990.00: For the purchase of safety vests for the safety of Weiser City Police K-9 and officers.
Solar Flashing Crosswalk Signs $29,920.00: This project is upcoming and will focus on State Street and Park Street.
Pool Safety & Accessibility $12,270: This funding is for equipment to allow residents to use the pool and bathrooms safely.
Police Safety Training $9,000.00: Funding was used to purchase safety training equipment so that Police can hold local trainings.
COP Safety Equipment & Training $1,000.00: This funding was used for traffic control and flagger certification classes for COP. The funding was also used for safety vests and ID kits for the children of Weiser.
Rescue Dive Equipment $9,396.00: This funding went towards the purchase of dive equipment for emergence water rescues.
Night Light Parade $1,000.00: This funding went towards candy Santa threw from his float and Christmas lights.
The City is planning to continue partnering with LOR for funding for future projects such possibly finishing the pavement around the city pond, purchasing generators for the Vendome in the event the building may need to be used as an emergency gathering place and water fill stations around Weiser.
