Chris McCord is a regular at the Weiser Community Red Cross Blood Drive; he’s an inspiration for many in the area. With an unwavering commitment to helping others, McCord recently surpassed four gallons, equivalent to 32 individual donations.
Chris is always excited to come out and donate.
As blood donation numbers decline in many communities, the need for dedicated donors like McCord has never been greater. The Weiser community has seen a consistent drop in contributions, largely due to an aging donor base and health related disqualifications. While younger individuals stepping up to donate have been encouraging, the numbers still don’t match the losses experienced from those unable to donate anymore.
At the latest community blood drive held yesterday (3/6/25), 75 donors participated, resulting in the collection of 57 whole blood units and 21 power reds, totaling 78 units of blood. While this represents a significant effort, it falls short of the 89 units collected during the same event last year.
“Every donor makes a difference, and we encourage everyone who is eligible to consider participating,” said Alex Chavarria. “With a persistent need for blood, any contribution is invaluable.”
For those wishing to join Chris in his life saving mission, the next Weiser Community Red Cross Blood Drive is set for May 28, 2025, at the Vendome Event Center. Interested individuals can sign up ahead of time to ensure their spot.
