The Weiser Elks Lodge #1683 proudly recognized two local Vietnam veterans, Stephen F. Fenske and Jerry Barnard, with the presentation of the official United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration Lapel Pin.

The Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin serves as “a lasting memento of the Nation’s thanks,” given in appreciation for the service and sacrifice of all U.S. veterans who served on active duty during the Vietnam War era.
Eligibility

The pin is presented to all living U.S. veterans who served on active duty in the Armed Forces between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of location.
Symbolism of the Pin
Each element of the pin carries a deep meaning:
• Eagle – Symbolizes courage, honor, and dedicated service, long featured in American military insignia.
• Blue Circle – Reflects the canton of the U.S. flag, representing vigilance, perseverance, and justice.
• Laurel Wreath – A timeless symbol of honor and victory.
• Stripes – Represent the American flag and national unity.
• Stars – Six stars represent the United States and the five allied nations who stood beside us: Australia, Thailand, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, and the Republic of the Philippines.
• Inscription – On the reverse, the words “A Grateful Nation Thanks and Honors You” are inscribed, placed closest to the wearer’s heart as a reminder of the nation’s enduring gratitude.
A National Commemoration
The presentation of the lapel pin is part of a national initiative honoring Vietnam veterans across the country. The Weiser Elks Lodge was proud to participate in this effort to ensure that local veterans receive the recognition they so deeply deserve.
