Weiser’s 100 Friends That Care Honors Local Nonprofits at Quarterly Awards Ceremony

November 18, 2024, The 100 Friends That Care group in Weiser held its third quarterly Awards Ceremony, recognizing the efforts of local nonprofits that contribute to the community’s well-being.

Three organizations presented, including the Shamrock Ladies Club, the Snake River Heritage Center, and Love INC, with the Shamrock Ladies Club emerging as the recipient of this quarter’s donations.

The Shamrock Ladies Club has dedicated its efforts to preserving the historic Jeffreys School House, a landmark that has been a staple of Weiser since its original construction in 1870. Although the original structure was lost to fire in the early 1900s, the existing building, erected in 1908, continued to serve as a school until 1959. In a community-driven effort, the Unity Grange #416 and the Shamrock Ladies Club purchased the site, with the Grange transferring full ownership to the club in 1985.

Today, the schoolhouse serves as a multifunctional community center, hosting family reunions, birthdays, meetings, dance lessons, and other social gatherings.

The Shamrock Ladies Club is currently collaborating with the Snake River Heritage Center to develop an educational model one-room classroom reflective of the 1930s, intended for public tourism and school field trips.

Despite the enthusiasm and commitment from club members, the building requires significant upgrades. The upper classroom has fallen into disrepair, with hazards like falling plaster rendering it unsafe for public use, highlighting an urgent need for critical repairs and electrical updates throughout the facility.

“Our funding has always relied on generous donations from the community,” said the Shamrock Ladies Club. “However, we’ve reached a point where we require more substantial financial support to ensure the safety and longevity of this cherished building.”

The 100 Friends Who Care initiative, which brings Weiser residents together to support local nonprofits, offers a critical lifeline. This group is a wonderful opportunity for Weiser and Washington County to unite in helping organizations that make a difference.

Community members and organizations are encouraged to reach out if they are affiliated with a 501(c)(3) that may benefit from future donations.

Additionally, those interested in joining this group dedicated to community support are invited to participate. Please contact Kelly Haun at 208-573-0812 for more information or to offer assistance.
