Why Dads are the BEST!

Dads have given us so much over the years, and fatherly advice is something we can all learn from, no matter our age.  For Father’s Day this year, I wanted to hear from folks in the community by asking them to share their best advice they have ever received from their dad or a special memory they cherish.  Some of the answers will make you well up with emotion and some will make you giggle.  I hope that this list brings you a smile and I encourage you to comment on this post with your own memories.

“My dad passed away a few years ago.  He was the best dad ever, always worked hard to provide for his family.  He always taught me to be kind and help others.  He helped so many people.”  ~April Deleon

“That nothing in life will be handed to me if I keep up with my ‘attitude’” (with an eye roll and a sassy hand on her hip) ~Amy, age 5

“Richard Randall Cordis has been my dad since 1973.  He stepped in and stepped up and because of him I know what a healthy father/daughter is supposed to look and feel like.  He officially adopted me several years after I married Cupcake.  Best advice?  First things first, Laur.  First things first.”  ~Laurel Adams

“I’m beautiful!”  ~Gracie, age 3

“My favorite memories with my dad are made at Boise State games, screaming under the lights.”  ~Jaiden, age 17

“My dad wasn’t the one that gave me life, but he is the one that gave me a life.  He taught me that animals entrusted to your care, whether they are pets or livestock, depend on us and should be provided the best life possible while we have them.  He taught me that you avoid getting cattle running at all costs, and that you take care of your horse and dog before you feed yourself.  He taught me that you don’t have to yell to make a point.  Usually, a “look” will do the job.  He taught me that power naps after dinner are great!  Most important, he taught me that, even though he doubted it himself when we first became family, women are every bit as capable on the ranch as a man.  I love and miss him every day.”  ~Zane Davis

“My favorite memory is of daddy taking me to the green school on the first day.” ~Ashlyn, age 7

“When dad plays xbox with me!  That’s my favorite thing.”  ~Aiden, age 10

“The best memory I would say is of our summer trip in 2019…all down the Oregon Coast to the redwoods and back up through Crater Lake…it was a pretty magical trip.”  ~Nick Watkins, speaking about his daughter

“I can’t date ’til I’m 40.”  Annalee, age 10

Best advice is “Go put longer shorts on!”  ~Adahlei, age 7

“In baseball, just have fun!”  ~Brantlei, age 11

“My best memory with my dad is all the walks and bike rides we go on!”  ~Breann, age 13

“He told me to be brave and don’t be scared like when I need to climb a ladder or lose a tooth.” ~Harper, age 5

“The best memory I have of my dad would be all of our camping trips!  I love YOU endlessly, dad!”  ~Addi Gomez, age 19

“I have enough memories, quotes, and laughs with my dad to fill up a whole newspaper BUT, one memory I love is when my dad woke me up when he got home late from work one night when I was about 5 or so to watch Johnny Carson and share a Butterfinger.” ~Brenda Lukehart Mattson

“Work hard and be honest.”  ~Byron, age 13

“The best advice that dad has ever given me was ‘make what is valuable important’ and my favorite memory with him was when we were on the boat at CJ Strike and we fed the raccoon.” ~Annabelle, age 16

“Making a snowman with my dad!”  Lylianna, age 5

“No dating til I’m 30!” ~Karlee-Rae, age 6

“My best memory of my dad is when we were building the chicken coop and the play area at our old house and he let me help him!”  ~Abbi, age 13

“Try your hardest and never give up.”  ~Braxton, age 14

Happy Father’s Day! May you all have a terrific weekend filled with love, laughs, and memorable times.
