With the support of Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps, the Weiser Elk’s Lodge #1683 celebrated Flag Day on Saturday June 14th, with an event dedicated to honoring the American Flag and all that it symbolizes.
As an organization committed to patriotic duty, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks actively promotes knowledge and respect for the nation’s flag in various ways, with the Flag Day Service standing out as a cornerstone tradition.
On June 14th each year, Elk’s Lodges nationwide mark Flag Day, commemorating the birth of the American Flag. Notably, the Elks were at the forefront of this observance long before it was officially recognized by law. It was on August 3rd, 1949, when President Harry S. Truman signed Public Law 203, establishing June 14th as Flag Day across the United States.
The Flag Day Service, a key Elks ritual, is a grand and educational affair often conducted as a public ceremony. This event aims to inform and inspire, with its vibrant display serving to enhance the overall impact.
President Truman, himself an Elk member, played a pivotal role in enshrining Flag Day as a national observance, underscoring the shared commitment to honoring the cherished emblem of the nation.
