New Owners at Midvale Community Mercantile

Earlier this month, the Midvale Community Mercantile Facebook page announced that new ownership will be taking over as they say goodbye to previous owners, Lane and Elsa.  They announced new owners Cindy and Hugo Van Vliet as they thanked their employees for their positive attitudes, hard work, and support over the years.

Originally from California, home to over 7,000 almond farms, the Van Vliet’s moved to Idaho three years ago after owning an almond ranch of their own.  “It was just time to move.  We love this area and love the people.  People have been amazing,” Cindy shared.  Since moving to Cambridge, Idaho, the Van Vliet’s have settled into a quieter way of life, which they treasure and appreciate.  The couple runs their own ranch in Cambridge and Cindy is a local realtor.

Being in the real estate business is how Cindy came across the Midvale Mercantile property.  Cindy had an appointment to show the property to a client.  Having not been inside the building in quite some time, Cindy hadn’t realized what a large business it was and how important it is to the community.  Her client was ultimately interested in a different property, but Cindy immediately fell in love with the building herself!

There was little debate on what to do next.  Cindy and Hugo decided to invest in the property as a way to keep the store open and successful for the community of Midvale.  It was their desire to keep the property locally owned and ensure that prices stay low.  “We love it here and everyone has been so nice and welcoming.  We want to keep this going for the community,” Cindy commented.  Lane and Elsa shared that they think everyone will enjoy the new owners and have a great working relationship.

Stop in and say hello to the new owners next time you visit Midvale Community Mercantile!
