17th Annual Death by Chocolate

Written by Austyn Perkins

We all get chocolate urges from time to time. But have you ever been able to eat a plate full of different chocolates and at the same time get to judge the chefs who made them? The annual Death by Chocolate event in Twin Falls had its 17th annual event to raise money for the Rotary’s community project to rebuild the Frontier Park restrooms.

The Death by Chocolate event was held on February 1st and went from 6pm to 9pm. To give you a perspective on how the event works, the judges determine, before it starts, the first, second, and third place winners in each of the five categories; Cake, Brownie, Cookie, Candy, and Unique Dessert. Once 6pm comes around, the people pay a $25 entrance fee, grab a plate, and fill it with delicious chocolate confections! While they eat great chocolate, they vote for who they think should win People’s Choice.

Upon interviewing Patrick Nauman, the owner of Weiser Classic Candy, he shared that he and his company had entered the event and won 3rd place by the judges, and 2nd place by the people’s choice! The candy that he had chosen to enter in the contest was called the “Ultimate Truffle”.

Patrick estimated that there were about 900 people who attended, and that the Death by Chocolate event had probably raised about $20,000.

So next year, when your chocolate urges return (and they will), be sure to check out this fun event! And if you would like to try the “Ultimate Truffle” yourself, be sure to check out Weiser Classic Candy.
