Generosity Surges as Weiser Community Rallies to Support Our Local Senior Center

November 28, 2023

In a heartening display of community spirit, The Weiser Signal American and Living In The News .Com recently spotlighted the Weiser Activity Center For Seniors’ financial situation. Disclosing a monthly mortgage of $1,771 and a remaining debt of less than $200,000, the community was quick to respond to a call for support.

Inspiration struck from an idea presented by Norma Brown, prompting a donation drive to benefit the Weiser Activity Center For Seniors. The initiative, dubbed the “Evelyn Stover Challenge” in honor of Norma’s late mother—not only a prominent figure in the Weiser community, but also one that loved to serve the community—encourages individuals to contribute $1,000 each. The goal is simple: enlist 196 donors to raise funds to alleviate the center’s mortgage burden.

Since the release of a video on Living In The News .Com and an article in the Weiser Signal American two weeks ago, the response has been nothing short of remarkable. A staggering $50,000 has been raised, showcasing the generosity of the community.

Karen Hoffer, President of the Weiser Activity Center For Seniors’ Board of Directors, expressed her gratitude, stating, “This will help free us up to help more people, especially the growing need for home delivery meals.”

The funds raised will not only ease the financial strain but will also enable the center to expand its reach and support services for seniors, veterans, and those requiring home-delivered meals. Users of the center’s meal services extend their heartfelt thanks to the community for their generosity.

As the contributions continue to pour in, there is optimism that the Evelyn Stover Challenge will not only meet but exceed its goals.
