Looking in the Weiser Museum – More about Mortimer’s Island

The Oregon Trail Park continued to grow in popularity as Frank Mortimer dared to cultivate his dream.  The Park was well managed and sustained its reputation through many years.  Frank persistently  improved his park  for the enjoyment of the public.   The original dance floor was enlarged and eventually became a beautiful enclosed building with a dance floor that rivaled any other in size in this corner of the world.   Special bands and orchestras  provided matchless dance music, as well as popular dance contests.   Dance enthusiasts traveled by train to Weiser to be a part of this great entertainment spot.
This large structure also included a lodge which supplied housing for the Mortimers.  Many today will remember when this building was the roller skating scene for Weiserites, young and old.

Google “ Frank Mortimer” to access past stories.
The Snake River Heritage Center will be open Fridays and Saturdays, 10-1pm, through the end of August.  But, Weiser’s museum is scheduling a few events for September and October.  Keep your eyes open for a Cabaret Concert by Sean Rogers and Stephen Craig!
