Local high school students recently took on the challenge of recycling over 400 cardboard boxes. It all started when high school students Brady Reed (far left), Brylee Williams (second from left), Britynn Seward (third from left), and Paige Johnson (fourth from left), saw an issue at their high school. After the school acquired new computers for students, almost 500 pounds of recyclable material was bound for the dump. After seeing the issue, the small group of high school students stepped in to solve the problem. Once they received the green light from the school’s administration, the students acted quickly to devise a plan.Â
They began their task Jan. 27. The students had to remove paper and plastic from within the boxes and separate them into piles. The real fun began as the group of four broke down over 400 cardboard boxes and prepared them for transport. After the paper and plastic had been bagged and the cardboard had been loaded, nearly five hours had passed. The recyclable materials were taken over to Fruitland as there are no recycling facilities in Weiser. These students donated over eight hours of their time to both the high school and to our world – making the environment a greener place, one box at a time.
