Midvale kicked off the start of the Holiday season with 2 amazing community events.
First there was a free Thanksgiving dinner. Friends and neighbors who chose not to join the crazy, busy traffic on Highway 95 over the holiday, were able to join together for a free traditional Thanksgiving dinner in Tin Pan Alley. It was a well-attended event sponsored by Cindy & Hugo Van Vliet (the new owners of the Midvale Mercantile building) and Lane Williams & Elsa Freeman (the previous owners). Tin Pan Alley was beautifully decorated for the event. Thank you, Cindy.
This fun collaboration of volunteers provided turkey and all of the trimmings while the guests brought in side dishes and desserts. There was plenty of good food to go around and quite a few to-go boxes were taken home for those who were not able to attend.
Then on Sunday evening the whole community gathered downtown for the annual Christmas tree lighting. A special thank you goes out to BJ and Jesse Whitener and their family, who gathered a crew of volunteers and spent weeks preparing for the event. It was a lovely old-fashioned gathering with bon fires, giving thanks, caroling, hot chocolate, cookies, children playing and old friends sharing a special time together. Then when the special moment arrived, the beautiful Christmas tree was lit as well as the entire downtown area. It was magical.
So many people step up to the plate whenever they are asked to contribute in this little community. You did it again Midvale.
