A small family development company from central Oregon has purchased the building space at 348 State Street, the corner lot next to the Star Theater. The Eriksen family, 91-year-old Gard and his three sons Bruce, Brad, and Noel have big plans for the space and renovations have already begun.
Bruce Eriksen shared that their company enjoys taking old buildings and restoring them back to prominence. “We have a wheat farming history in Eastern Washington and Western Idaho, with strong roots in agricultural communities,” he shared. Noel Eriksen has a separate construction business, licensed in Oregon and Idaho, and he will be providing remodeling and sub-contracting services for this project.
The plan is to replace the roof of the building, install new windows, and demo the main floor down to the studs. They want to build out tenant spaces and complete the unfinished second story apartment spaces. Renovations will also include cleaning the exterior brick and stucco. New color schemes are in the works as well as replacement of the parapet. Bruce shared that they want to create a rooftop terrace for apartment tenants also. Lastly, a 12’ by 12’ glass garage door will be installed on the west side of the building.
On March 2nd, renovations officially started! Some light demo work began to expose the covered brick and old windows. The company met with sub-contractors to arrange services and supplies. Larger demo projects will start early next week. Depending on the availability of supplies will determine when the job will be finished. Bruce is hopeful for a mid-to-late summer completion. They will be hiring a property manager in the future, but as of yet, no contracts have been signed on that. More details on the tenant spaces will be available in the future.
