This coming school year, Pioneer Elementary will see a fresh new face on campus! Dr. Sarah Hatfield has been added as the school’s new principal.
Growing up in Ontario, Oregon, Dr. Hatfield is a local from just across the border! Attending Eastern Oregon University for her teaching degree, Hatfield acquired her first teaching job in Burns, Oregon. She then spent two years at Payette High School where she also coached numerous sports. In Notus, Idaho, Dr. Hatfield spent 12 years in the Notus School District in various positions including teaching, coaching, and intervention.
Along the way, Dr. Hatfield went back to school to obtain her Master’s degree as well as a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. She spent seven years in Craigmont, Idaho, as superintendent and K-6 Principal at Highland Joint School District. After adopting her daughter, the two decided they wanted to be closer to home where family and friends live in the Ontario area. That is when the opportunity to apply for the principal position arose in Weiser.
Back in May, Dr. Hatfield had an opportunity to come to Pioneer Elementary and have a quick meet and greet with the staff after she was hired as the new principal. Throughout the summer she has been working in the office preparing for the first day of school coming up soon. “I have been using the secretaries a lot!” she jokingly commented, as she spoke of needing help in many areas as she learns the ropes. Dr. Hatfield has been going over plans, goals, committees, and getting a general feel for the new environment.
As a personal goal, Dr. Hatfield would like to learn everyone’s name including all of the students. She is enthusiastic about meeting everyone and motivated to get a better understanding of how the school functions. She does not plan to make any major changes right away and is eager to get started in her new leadership position.
Help us welcome Dr. Sarah Hatfield to the Weiser Community and Pioneer Elementary School!
