Each year on April 22nd, Earth Day denotes the special anniversary of the beginning of the modern environmental movement that was launched in 1970. Earth Day activated a movement to give a voice to public awareness of the state of our beloved planet. By 1990, Earth Day had finally reached a global scale and was instigating major efforts worldwide to clean up the Earth and focus on environmental issues.
Recently, the residents of Weiser Care of Cascadia assembled an Earth Day packet of activities and information to share with Mrs. Parker’s Blue Bird kindergarten class. The packets included “Feed the Bees” wildflower mixes, coloring sheets, and activities like making your own self-watering planter from recycled materials. The packets encourage learning about Earth Day and the incredible benefits of recycling, conserving products, and protecting the environment and wildlife.
Not only was this a great opportunity for the kids to learn something fun on Earth Day, but it also provided an opportunity for both to learn new skills and gave the children a chance to interact with an older adult with a sense of purpose. What a great outing for the residents as well! Activities Director, Tiffanee Henson, was thrilled and so happy to do this project with the residents. They were able to deliver the packets to Mrs. Parker’s class on the morning of April 22nd, 2021.
