Fruitland High School’s rendition of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” brings to life the timeless story of Joseph, his coat of many colors, and his journey through challenges and triumphs. The story hasn’t been presented on this side of the valley in many years, so the students are eager to please their audiences. With an ensemble cast of dedicated students, the production showcases the impressive talent and hard work of the young performers, under the guidance of Sterling Blackwell, the musical theater teacher and director.

“We are thrilled to present this classic musical in our little black box space. Normally this show is made for the big stage, but I am excited to see it produced in such an intimate space. The dedication and passion the students bring to the stage promise an unforgettable experience for our audience,” says Blackwell, director.

From the legendary musical theater duo of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice (Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar), this musical parable features an exuberant score. Noted for its family-friendly storyline, universal themes, and catchy music, Joseph is a sentimental favorite for Director, Sterling Blackwell. “I got to play the role of Joseph my senior year in high school. It just felt like it was time to bring this story to life again.”

Joseph is a retelling of the biblical story of Joseph, his devoted father, jealous brothers, and his incredible series of adventures. The musical was only 20 minutes long when an unknown 19-year-old named Andrew Lloyd Webber first created it for a British school choir in 1968. He asked his friend Rice to write the lyrics and soon they expanded it to 40 minutes and took it to the London stage. Since then, Joseph has continued to grow, both in length and popularity. Filled with youthful energy, Joseph combines a wide variety of musical styles – everything from country to calypso to rock ‘n’ roll – in a series of memorable musical numbers. Described as a high voltage extravaganza, Joseph includes such classic songs as the contemplative “Any Dream Will Do,” the Caribbean infused “Benjamin Calypso,” the dazzling “Jacob and Sons/Joseph’s Coat,” the rockabilly sensation “Song Of The King (Seven Fat Cows),” and the unforgettable “Go, Go, Go Joseph.”

Audience members are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance to ensure they don’t miss out on this musical extravaganza. Tickets can be conveniently purchased online at www.Re.Theater. All tickets are $10 a seat, and seating is reserved. Don’t miss the chance to witness the magic of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” brought to life by the talented students of Fruitland High School.
