Fruitland Public Schools Education Foundation Awards 28 Teachers With Over $50,000

Tuesday, January 24th The Fruitland Public Schools Education Foundation held their annual awards ceremony at the Fruitland School District. During the previous week teachers submitted applications for funding for classroom and project needs. Board members then looked over the applications to decide which requests they would be able to fulfill. This year the foundation received an anonymous donation of $50,000 that they were able to add to their normal yearly amount given. Twenty-eight teachers from Fruitland’s elementary school, middle school and high school were awarded over $50,000 at this year’s awards ceremony.

The FPSEF has multiple funds they can use to help support the school district such as special projects funds, endowed funds and memorial funds. This year with the added donation they were able to help on a much larger scale. “In addition to the $50,000 this year, last year we had an additional $35,000 above our normal amount. It’s really starting to make an impact on what we are able to give the teachers that apply. It has been phenomenal,” stated President of the Fruitland Education Foundation, Rob  Frye.

The Fruitland Public Schools Education Foundation began In 1990 and was founded by the then Superintendent, Ben Kerfoot. The purpose of the foundation is to raise money and other forms of contribution to allocate to educators of the Fruitland School District to help enhance education. Frye shared that FPSEF tries not to do anything that can be handled by the schools yearly budget but he knows the budget can’t help with all the teachers’ needs. “Some of the teachers often use their own money. It’s been really nice to be able to help”, stated Frye
