Girl Jumps Off Bridge – From WA Co. Sheriff Thomas

On April 15, 2016 at 8:42 am, Washington county Dispatch received numerous 911 calls in reference to a female threatening to jump off the Weiser River Bridge.  Prior to Washington County Sheriff’s and Weiser Police Departments’ arrival on scene, dispatch was advised that the female subject had jumped off the bridge into the Weiser River.  When Washington county Deputies arrived at the Weiser River Bridge they could see the female subject approximately 300 yards floating down river from the bridge.  Washington Waterway Deputies who were headed to launch a boat on the Weiser River were advised that the female was in the river.  Deputies and Police then responded to the train bridge approximately half a mile down river.  When officers arrived at the train bridge they saw the female in the river yelling for help.  The deputies and officers were unable to reach the female as she went under the train bridge and continued floating down the river.   When Washington County Deputies Sam Edwards, Brad Johnson and Weiser City Officer Cody Samson launched a boat into the Weiser River they were directed to the location of the female victim by deputies and officers still on the train bridge.  The deputies and officer on the boat were able to remove the female victim from the water and transport her to an awaiting ambulance at Mortimer’s Island boat launch.  The 16 year old female was transported to the Weiser Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

The temperature of the water was 45 degrees and the victim was removed from the water approximately .5 miles downstream from where she jumped in.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office urges all those who are having suicidal thoughts to reach out for help.  They can call the Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
