Good Samaritans Cleaning Up Weiser One Walk at a Time

Why would anyone pick up other people’s litter?!  The way humans treat the planet is beyond anything we have seen in the past.  Our environment is suffering because of our carelessness.  What better way to give back not only to the Earth we inhabit but to the community we live in as well?

Eric Townsend, along with his beloved fiancé and friends, have been picking up trash along the streets of Weiser.  Every day, in the morning and evening, they get together to take walks for pleasure and exercise.  One day they were noticing how much garbage was accumulating around town.  “Why not pick up garbage along the way?” commented Townsend.

The good Samaritans already see what a big impact they are making on the streets.  With bags in hand, working together to remove litter and waste from the Weiser community is hard work but also enjoyable and rewarding.  We all want clean, well-kept neighborhoods that benefit everyone.  With spring on its way, we will be spending more time outside, enjoying warmer weather and outdoor activities.  Many areas around town need some extra tidying up.

Not only does the litter create an eyesore, but garbage is also disruptive to plants, animals, and insects.  It can also become a hazard for children playing outside.  Water pollution is also a factor.  Litter is found everywhere we go!  Parks, school grounds, sidewalks, parking lots, walking trails, and high traffic areas.  Efforts put forth by good people like Eric Townsend can lead to a vast improvement in our area.

What a difference a small group of people can make!  Let us all be inspired to beautify local areas by picking up garbage anytime we see it.  A big thank you to Eric Townsend and friends for regularly pitching in to make Weiser a better place to live!

“A clean environment is a human right like any other.  It is therefore part of our responsibility toward others to ensure that the world we pass on is as healthy, if not healthier, than we found it.”  ~ Dalai Lama
