How Can LOR Help the Weiser Community?

December 18, 2023

Weiser has a new foundation, the LOR Foundation, that is ready and willing to help the community and is asking locals like you what you think is needed to improve quality of life here in Weiser.

What is LOR?

LOR is a private foundation that a couple started in order to help communities in the rural Mountain West; its name represents its values—livability, opportunity, and responsibility. LOR understands that rural communities often are underserved and wants to be a resource for them. LOR works with people in rural communities to help identify community priorities and help solve community concerns across a variety of issues like education, economy, the environment, engagement, housing, health, transportation and water. The foundation works with individuals and organizations to kick-start their ideas for how to solve community problems by providing funding to help launch these community-led solutions.

How has LOR helped other communities?

Currently LOR works with communities in Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Wyoming, and now Weiser and has provided support for nearly 400 projects just in the past year. Some examples: In September of this year the LOR Foundation helped fund new digital signage for the Montezuma-Cortez School District to increase visibility and warn drivers to slow down in the school zone, improving safety for students. Also this year LOR helped outfit a park in Libby, Montana, with ADA-compliant tables and benches. And in Taos, New Mexico, LOR helped launch a community organization that’s focused on creating more affordable housing. These are just a few ways LOR has been able to help; to learn more about the kinds of projects LOR has supported visit lorfoundation.org/solutions.

The LOR Foundation also wants to hear from you! If you have an idea for a community project that might make life in Weiser just a little bit better, contact Weiser community officer, Jenn Huff at (208) 405-6675 or jhuff@lorfoundation.org.
