Wouldn’t it be sad if your child wanted to play a sport and you had to tell them no because it cost too much? That’s what’s going to happen to a large number of Weiser kids if the school levy doesn’t pass.
Currently, Weiser kids do not have to pay to play sports. These costs have been covered by the school levies. If this levy doesn’t pass, families will be charged hundreds of dollars per child to play a single sport.
I understand that the tax is a hardship on some families but think what it covers. With this levy kindergarten will remain full time, kids will be able to play as many sports as they wish at no charge, a new track will be built and the donated field house building will be built out. Due to restrictions, none of this is covered by the $6 million from the state.
Without the levy, Weiser will have none of the above plus kids will be charged to play sports. If a family has trouble paying this levy, they certainly won’t be able to afford to have their kids play sports. Only the well-off kids will be able to play. What a loss that would be.
Let’s not cut off our nose to spite our face. Please vote yes on the school levy.
