Local Bookstore is Moving to a New Building

December 4, 2023

by Austyn Perkins

Literary Paws has been around for nearly 30 years, and is now planning to move into the building right next door to them. The building was previously called the “Crescent Bar” owned by Michelle, who shut it down in July of 2022.

In June, the owner of Literary Paws and many volunteers helped clean, and fix up the old building to meet their moving needs. Eventually, progress was made, and the old bar was cleared out.

But now that winter has rolled by, the progress on Literary Paws’ move has slowed down greatly. Not only did the weather start affecting the move, but so did the funds. They now need to hire an electrician and plumber to get the building into a ready-to-move state. But to do that, they need more help from Weiser to get past the last major financial obstacle.

So how can you help Literary Paws this winter season? Since their move is basically halted until winter is over, or until professional help can be afforded, Literary Paws says shopping their store or giving “donations of cat food are super helpful.” They also said that they are “feeding between 8 and 12 feral cats on top of ours.” That’s a lot of cats to feed! So if you have any extra cat food, they’d greatly appreciate your donations.

When asked why they wanted to move their store, they said it’s because there’s more room, no rent (Michelle owns the building), and it’s a “cool old building that is being repurposed for something much better than a bar.”

Lastly, Literary Paws would like to give a huge thank you to all their loyal customers.

If you would like to support their move financially, you can give donations at the current bookstore location, or visit their GoFund Me. You can also follow them on Facebook for any upcoming events or sales on books.
