Malheur Turnkey Held An Ontario Chamber Ribbon Cutting

Posted January 12, 2024

In a collaborative effort, The Housing Authority and Community In Action celebrated the grand opening of Malheur Turnkey on January 12, marking a significant milestone in addressing homelessness.

Attendees were not only treated to food but also had the opportunity to explore the fully furnished units, designed to provide crucial support to the most vulnerable members of the community.

The initiative aims to commence leasing the units starting this Monday, with a focus on tailoring services to the unique needs of homeless individuals. The ultimate goal is to facilitate a quicker transition to permanent housing for those in need. Community In Action will be overseeing the leasing process, with plans to accommodate 34 individuals initially and a potential for an additional nine.

To determine shelter eligibility, priority will be given to the most vulnerable populations, including victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and individuals with behavioral health disorders. Prospective residents will be required to sign a participation agreement, and each household will have an individualized service plan established.

Funded by Project Turnkey, a state program dedicated to converting former hotel spaces into temporary housing, Malheur Turnkey stands as a beacon of hope for those experiencing homelessness. The housing facility is conveniently located at 949 N. Oregon Street in Ontario, Oregon.
