On this Memorial Day, May 27th, 2024, eight riders embarked from southern Idaho in a tribute to Major Greg Stone, a brave soldier hailing from Weiser. This annual ride traces its roots back to 2003 when two members of Major Stone’s Idaho Air National Guard unit made their way to Weiser for the dedication of Major Stone’s brick at Weiser’s Veteran’s Park. The ride, now in its 22nd year, stands as a reminder of Major Stone’s sacrifice.
The courageous soldier lost his life to injuries sustained at Camp Pennsylvania Kuwait during the initial phases of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In his memory, these riders come together each Memorial Day, retracing the path from Boise to Weiser to honor a hometown hero who gave his all in service to his country. The journey from Boise to Weiser is not just a ride; it is a living memorial to the unbreakable bond between those who serve. On this day of remembrance, as the nation pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who have given their lives in service, these riders’ actions speak volumes. They carry with them the legacy of Major Stone, embodying the spirit of dedication, sacrifice, and unity that defines the American military tradition. And as they gather in Weiser, they stand as a symbol of gratitude and respect for those who have answered the call of duty, never to be forgotten.
We would like to thank Lance Marcus for making the introductions.
