At the end of last year Ryndon Olsen, a seventeen year old senior at Weiser High School and kicker for the Football team, kicked a P.A.T., which is a “Point After Touchdown” for everyone out there who, like me, had no idea what that meant until just now. He was out there giving his all just for the referee not to be able to call the points because the uprights were not at regulation height. How disappointed he must have been! But, instead of going home and moping, he and his dad had an idea. They were going to fix and paint the uprights!
With help from his family and teammates Sharona Olsen, Ryan Olsen, Claramae Olsen, Jayden Walker, and Carter Jensen, Ryndon got to work. He found and cut old aluminum wheel line pipes for the new uprights. Being made of aluminum, the new uprights will not weigh as much and will not rust which was a struggle in the past. As for the reused “T” section, they had to grind off all the rusted paint before they could repaint it to match the new uprights.
When asked what he would like for the community of Washington County to know, Ryndon responded with, “It does not just have to be the adults that take the initiative, it can be younger people that can do it first, and show pride in our community.” Ryndon has left a lasting impression on the school and community for generations to come and I hope people throughout the community are able to draw inspiration from Ryndon’s story of hard work and dedication.
