A Washington County resident that works as councilor at the Snake River Correctional Institution which is located in Ontario Oregon, has been working from home because of the pandemic.
She had gone to the prison to pick up some inmate request forms and took them home. When she opened an envelope, her eyes began to burn and she started having respiratory difficulties. She called Snake River Correctional Institution about what was happening and they immediately called Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Washington County Sheriff responded to the residence along with Washington County Ambulance and Weiser Rural Fire Department. The Sheriff contacted Region 3 Hazmat.
Region 3 Hazmat responded to the residence and did feel that there was something in the envelope but could not determine what it was.
Right now Washington County Sheriff is working with Snake River Correctional Institution and Oregon State Police to test and determine what the substance is.
The victim has recovered from the symptoms.
