Saving A Drowning Horse – With Video

Thursday morning (7/15/21 at 9:37 AM) Weiser Rural Fire and Washington County Sheriff’s office responded to a request to help with a horse trapped in a pond.

The mare is a older horse, we think sometime last night she fell into the pond. The deep mud and steep bank kept her from climbing out. By the time someone found her she was too weak to stand.

With the assistance of a neighbor with a tractor, we were able to use the front end loader on the tractor to lift her onto the bank. The caretaker for the property then called for a Veterinarian to care for the injured mare.

Tim Atwood, Fire Chief, Weiser Area Rural Fire District.
