The Dream That Refuses to Fade

By Marsha Woods

Dreams, for most of us, are images in the thralls of one’s soundest moments of sleep.  Upon awakening, the image normally disappears, fading away and completely forgotten.

Dreams are seldom remembered, nor are they talked about.  Even more rare is the coincidence that two people enigmatically secretly share the same dream and are prompted to share it.

Surviving Hearts, a local cancer survivor advocacy group, is the product a dream shared that now refuses to fade.

Ironically, the concept of a much needed local support system for those suffering the numerous challenges of cancer evolved from a bonding relationship between an enthusiastic doctor and an equally exuberant patient.

Shellie Colvard, founder and driving force behind Surviving Hearts, along with Dr. Sarah Bolender, Radiation Oncologist at St. Luke’s Cancer Institute, through many long conversations that stretched into long hours of brainstorming, resulted in a highly esteemed organization.

Saturday night, April 22nd commemorates the 8th Annual fundraiser for Surviving Hearts volunteers and supporters.  Being held on the idyllic grounds of Sunnyside Farm & Events in Weiser, will feature a delightful meal catered by Tom Collins of Fruitland, lively music provided by Hector Pector out of Boise with a Weiser connection, a live auction of amazingly tempting items.  Additionally, a myriad of items up for silent auction bids will tempt the checkbook.

Festivities begin at 4pm with a social hour and dinner with the live auction following. The festivities will continue after the auction with dancing to the tunes of Hecktor Pecktor.

Proceeds from the event are utilized to alleviate the stresses of conquering the disease.  Monies raised are allotted for transportation costs related to treatment, lodging, recuperative resources.

The St. Luke’s Fruitland Respite House in Fruitland has been a major beneficiary of the dedicated efforts of Surviving Hearts with previous events to build the house which had their grand opening in 2019.

Cost for the event is $35 per person. Tickets can be purchased and reserved by contacting Surviving Hearts at 208-781-1778.

The dream that at one time seemingly, was far from reality, is still vivid and bright!  It is the dream that refuses to fade!

If you or anyone you know is battling cancer and needs help call Surviving Hearts at 208-781-1778.

To all those who have come to our event over the years and supported us and the vision, Surviving Hearts thanks you!
