The North Country Wrestling Club is a group of young male and female athletes, joined together, from Weiser to Council. There are over 40 kids, ranging from age 5 to high school, who participate in weekly practices and tournaments. Although the club focuses on skill development and execution with the sport, the primary focus is to develop well-rounded athletes in both mind and body, with an appreciation of the sport, healthy competition, and an attitude embracing both failures and successes in life that lead to continued development as a person.
North Country is a part of the Idaway and USA Wrestling organizations. These organizations put on tournaments all over Southern Idaho and the Northwest allowing the kids opportunities to compete outside of the normal wrestling season. Recently, at the Bulldog Clash in Nyssa, Oregon, our North Country wrestlers took home a trophy for 1st Place Team Points. An incredible feat given our small community!
On April 9, our wrestlers will attend the Idaway West District Tournament at Middleton High School, and the following weekend will compete at the Idaway State Tournament which takes place at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. The public is encouraged to attend one or both events and cheer on the future of wrestling!
