The STAR Non-Profit of Ontario Receives Donation From Local Pool Tournament

Posted January 8, 2024

By Onalee Mansor

The 17th Annual Mansor Walker Pool Tournament was held on October 21st, 2023 at The Double Diamond Saloon and Steakhouse located in New Plymouth, Idaho. Forty-four players playing on seven tables contended for 12 hours to raise $2,975.00. This tournament honors the memory of loved ones dear to the pool family community by raising funds for a local non-profit. The non-profit recipient of these funds in 2023 was The STAR Center, located in Ontario, Oregon.

The STAR (Sexual Trauma & Abuse Resource) Center serves children and their families affected by child sexual abuse. Their mission is “to provide children who have experienced sexual or physical abuse a coordinated community approach to investigation, prosecution, treatment and advocacy that promotes their safety, healing and well being.” They provide forensic exams, counseling services and interviews, and support for victims and their families before during and after the legal process. They are a registered member of the Oregon Child Abuse Intervention Centers and provide much needed services to the community.

Many local businesses contribute to this event with donations of goods, services, and gift certificates which are used in a silent auction, raffle, and 50/50 drawing to raise funds. Donations are accepted on a year round basis and are very much appreciated by the coordinators of this event and the non-profit recipient receiving the proceeds.

For more information regarding the event or to make a donation to the 2024 fund raiser, please contact one of the coordinators, Onie Mansor, 208-371-1553 or Robin Cusma at the Double Diamond, 208-278-9282. For information regarding The STAR Center please contact Kathy at 541-881-0153.

We would like to thank all donors in the community whose contributions made this event so successful in 2023 and in previous years as well!
