Upper Country Quilt Show June 2-11, From 10 to 4 Daily At Cambridge High School

By Helen Johnsen Deines

Upper Country Quilters are a group of hard working women who annually sponsor a quilt show.  Upper Country Quilt Show had its origins in Council as the Council Quilt Show.  As with many things, Covid changed alot of events. Council Quilt show was reorganized to Upper Country Quilt Show Winter 21/22, with the first show held June 2022 in Cambridge, with much success. 2023 is also a record year with near 100 quilts in the show and many entries in the ‘challenge block,’ which uses the theme of show “School House” as its challenge.  There is also a student division where youngsters enter their quilts.

Upper Country Quilt Show is a non profit organization, which means that any monies donated can be deducted as a business expense.  Each year members canvas Washington and Adams country for sponsors for quilt entries.  From each sponsorship ($25)  the quilter receives $20 cash and $5 goes to general upkeep (insurance, venue rent, etc.)  This year we’ve had a record number of individuals and businesses donate toward this.

Any monies we receive through donations are used as prize money to the “best of show” chosen by viewers choice.  Each category winner receives $100, with $75 going to 2nd place and $100 to the best quilt following the annual theme. After the show we award  monies to various charities including the VLBatman project, domestic/art science in local schools, etc., In the words of our 22/23 Chairman, Linda Rhodes, “The quilters entries in the Upper Country Quilt Show have again shown their amazing talent with quilts brought to our show.  All are invited to come and enjoy the show and shop our “giftables” table.”
