Verle Preston Recognized for his Service to our Country

The Weiser Community /Senior Center make and present Quilts of Valor to our local Service members and Veterans to Thank them for their service to our Great Country.
The current Quilt of Valor recipient is Verle Preston who served in the United States Army as a Private in the Military Police from 1950-1952.
The Quilt of Valor Foundation was founded in 2004 in the kitchen of Catherine Roberts,  in honor of her son who was serving in Iraq.  The original goal was to make 100,000 quilts for service members, to date the total number of quilts that have been presented is 142,180 and they are still going strong.
“The mission of Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover Service members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.”
The Foundation has volunteer groups and individuals all over the country who tirelessly make quilts for our wonderful Service members and Veterans.  The Weiser Community/Senior Center is one of those groups.  The quilters in this group are Trina Leininger, Barb Goff,  Linda Smith and Connie Lang have made and presented 25 Quilts of Valor.  When asked why these ladies do this Trina Leininger said “What started as a dream of ours 3 years ago to recognize the men & women of our community for their service to our country, has now become very real to us.  We just wanted to let the men & women of our community who have served in the armed forces and their families know how much we appreciate them.  We would also like to say thank you to those who have helped and supported us in our efforts by donations of money & fabric.  We appreciate you very much”
If you would like to donate to this very worthy cause please contact the Weiser Community/Senior Center at 414-0750.
