Weiser High at VEX Idaho State Robotics

Friday, March 1st four Weiser High Vex teams put to the test their engineering skills competing for a trophy and the opportunity to get an invite to the World VEX Championships. Although none of the teams were able to pull off the overall win, all teams walked away giving it their all and gained experience, skills and friendships.

All four teams were able to battle it out and make it through the qualifying rounds going up against the top 31 teams in the state. Going into the bracket rounds two Weiser teams, 9551D and 9551F, chose to alliance, but together were unable to make it further in the bracket. Team 9551B also was eliminated in their first round in the bracket section.

Team 9551A teamed up with a Nampa Christian School robot and were doing well in their match in the bracket rounds, but Team 9551A’s robot SLUG was brutally knocked over during the match by one of their opponents leaving them unable to assist their alliance team. It was still a close match, but their score of 95 was not enough to beat out the other alliance’s score of 113.

Coach Jon Lundberg shared his thoughts on this year’s VEX Robotics season stating, “I am very proud of all of our WHS robotics teams. Our kids worked hard through the course of the season, represented themselves in an outstanding way and accomplished many things. Four teams qualified for and competed well in the state tournament at ISU in Pocatello. You can be proud of these smart Wolverines.”

During State, 9551A’s team member Kaden Hill was interviewed by not just one, but two Pocatello news stations. If you would like to learn more about the Idaho State Vex Robotics Competition and see parts of Hill’s interview check out the following links:
