Weiser River Trail Celebrates Opening of New Rest Room Facility

By Don Dopf

Mayor Mark Loveland was on hand with Friends of the Weiser River Trail President Barb McGann Saturday afternoon for the official grand opening of a brand new rest room facility in Cambridge.

A small crowd of trail supporters and past trail board members were on hand for the celebration which featured talks by President McGann, Mayor Loveland, and past FWRT President Pat Trainor. It was stated that this new trail addition is designed to not only serve users of the Weiser River Trail, but the community and travelers as well. Over the past twenty-five years, the trail has proved to be a great asset to the communities along the corridor and it’s contributions to the general public are numerous.

The well-lighted and heated concrete structure offers hot water and flushing toilets and will be open to the public during hours prescribed by an automatic timing device that locks the doors after hours to help curb the chance of vandalism. The building sits next to the trail kiosk adjacent to the Washington County Fairgrounds and is flanked by two maturing Maple Trees and picnic tables.

The new facility and it’s amenities are valued at around $150,000 and were paid for by trail users, FWRT membership, and grant funds through Idaho Parks and Recreation. No local tax dollars were expended.
