Towards the end of September, Weiser High School Soccer received a very special gift. A new scoreboard! This scoreboard was generously gifted by Jaiden Gomez and her grandfather Ken Lukehart.
Jaiden Gomez is the class of 2022 All Student Body Vice President. In hopes of bringing a positive impact to this school year, she wanted to specifically support soccer this fall. Jaidens sister, Addison, participated in WHS Girls’ Soccer. Their father, Noel Gomez, had also coached for some time. With Jaidens family being a big part of the WHS Girls Soccer program, she felt obligated with the opportunity to get to work on something that was very needed.
The last scoreboard that was used for soccer was quite small and very difficult to see at times. Jaidens main goal with getting this new scoreboard was a large enough board for the crowd and players to see clearly. Most importantly, Jaiden wanted soccer teams to feel seen and important in WHS athletics.
The start of this new scoreboard started with Jaiden and her grandpa Ken. Fortunately, an indoor soccer program in Meridian donated the scoreboard to WHS after hearing Jaidens story. Shortly after, Jaiden and Ken were able to successfully find power to connect the scoreboard close enough to the soccer field. Along with finding power, Ken built a stand specifically for the scoreboard for transportation to be seamless as possible. With this stand, the scoreboard is able to be put out quickly just in time for both the girls and boys soccer senior night the last week of September. For future plans in regards to WHS soccer, Jaiden is looking into having the new scoreboard put up on posts and in the ground and to become permanent for next season.
