Angel Wings Network, Inc Fundraising for World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day, February 4th, is a global initiative that brings awareness to the pressing issue of cancer and taking action against millions of preventable deaths.  As a way to raise awareness of our local nonprofit, Angel Wings Network, Inc is holding an online fundraiser to help raise funds for local cancer patients.

Donations help local cancer patients like Trine L. when she was battling breast cancer.

In 2020, Angel Wings Network saw a drastic change in how they raise money to run their programs.  In-person events were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions on social gatherings.  A huge portion of fundraising is normally done with in-person events such as a walk/run or block parties.  Virtual fundraising is becoming “the norm” for now, 2021 will see a lot more virtual events.

For World Cancer Day, community members can find the online fundraiser on the Angel Wings Network facebook page.  For those who do not wish to use social media, a donation can be made through the website www.angelwingsnetwork.net.  Cash or check donations can also be brought to the office during office hours Monday through Thursday, 10am to 2pm, or mailed to PO Box 54, Weiser, ID.

So where does your donation go?  Angel Wings runs many different programs, all free of charge, to local cancer patients.  The biggest program is the “Wheels to Recovery” program which ensures that patients have a ride to and from treatment.  Angel Wings provides fuel cards to transport drivers and caregivers who are transporting cancer patients.  This is a significant need in rural areas due to the travel time it takes to get to treatments in larger cities such as Boise, ID.  To learn more about other programs that benefit from your donation, visit the website.

Mabel Dobbs, executive director, shared that volunteers are always needed and right now they are in need of office help as well as transportation drivers.  Drivers are given gas cards to compensate for fuel cost and help drive local cancer patients to and from treatment.  Many folks do not have a way to get to their treatments, so the “Wheels to Recovery” program is essential for our area.

Angel Wings Network, Inc has hopes of expanding their virtual outreach this year by planning new and improved virtual events.  Coming up in May, a virtual Idaho Gives Auction will take place which is expected to be a lot of fun and quite a bit different than last years virtual event.  Stay tuned for more information on that in the future!
