Dickens Christmas Carolers

By Rachele Story

“The Dickens Christmas Carolers was started about 3 years ago now. It started as a fundraiser for our studio.” said Tori Thomas. They try to give out scholarships to the kids in these programs heading off to school, as well as giving some to other worthy kids in the community who use their talents to serve. The VATS program does various fundraisers for these opportunities. Tori added that “The Dickens Carolers and Duck Soup Radio Brigade was born from this.” This year, however, they chose to go out into the community as an act of service during these really hard times…especially as so many of our community has been isolated and quarantined. “We wanted to spread some joy and hope to the elderly and high risk. So out to serve we went.” Tori said.

“We pick one weekend in December to go out…usually the second weekend of December. We take one night, but have been open to do 2 if the need ever arises.” Tori added.

They practice through November. “We use this time in our group lessons to explore harmonies and part writing, as well as improv. Using songs that are very familiar to the students.” Tori shared with us. As a former student myself this means lots of work and fun!

“We usually have only our high school students go out. But this year, we invited our 8th graders, as well.” Tori also added that next year, they will be opening it up to adult members of the community who would like to join in on the fun!

Tori wanted to share the studio’s mission statement with us as well! “The Victoria Arriero-Thomas Studio mission is to provide exceptional education in the performing arts at a price that everyone can afford! For ten years, Victoria Arriero-Thomas has created a studio that provides an extensive education in singing, acting, and dancing, along with building a confidence from within!

Along with providing affordable tuition fees, we also offer individual scholarships and tuition discounts, selected and distributed by Victoria Arriero-Thomas.

We wish to create students who love, support, and uplift one another while becoming the best artist they can be!

Everyone has a place within the Arts and the spotlight! Let’s find what makes you shine!”
