Flock Cancer Idaho Donates $25,000 To Surviving Hearts

  By Shellie Colvard

A local non profit in Idaho based out of Boise has shared their proceeds raised from a cancer walk held in May. Friday June 30th at Green Acres Food Truck Park in Boise a $25,000 check was presented to Surviving Hearts and two other local non profits.  The donation will help expand our reach with the overwhelming demand and need for financial assistance for local rural cancer patients in our communities with gas cards, food, co pay for medications, and whatever may come up that we can do to help them get to treatment and doctor appointments and make the journey less stressful. When we get the call about a patient we are able to respond to their needs immediately and help make the journey a little easier for them.

We also have been supplying St. Luke’s Cancer Institute with gift bags for each patient going through treatment that are filled with things that offer comfort to them, supplying 64 bags so far this year.  Along with supporting the St. Luke’s Respite House in Fruitland with a special gift bag with a bathrobe, candle and soap for each guest.

The St. Luke’s Respite House is a home away from home for cancer patients to stay while doing treatment when long distance travel is difficult.  Surviving Hearts spent a number of years raising money to help build the house with the grand opening in 2019. We are working on a new project to house a patient and their pet, a tiny home on wheels for one of the five RV spaces.  We are currently looking for a group or a individual with the expertise to build one and work with us and Dr. Sarah Bolender on the design.

Surviving Hearts is overwhelmed by the generosity of Leslie Scantling of Flock Cancer, we are overjoyed she considered us as one of their partners in the battle against cancer and our quest to make the journey a less stressful one and that those suffering aren’t alone.

Surviving Hearts is a all volunteer organization serving Adams, Washington, Payette, Malhuer and Baker counties. 208-781-1778 survivinghearts.org.
