FORMER REPRESENTATIVE SCOTT SYME ANNOUNCES PRIMARY BID FOR DISTRICT 9 SENATE SEAT

Post February 1 ,2024

Combat Veteran wants to tackle Crime, Education, Infrastructure, and Ensure Economic Growth

Today, Scott Syme announced his intention to seek the District 9 Senate Seat in the Idaho State Legislature. Syme wants to bring common sense decision-making to the Idaho Legislature. In his prior six years in the legislature, he was tough on crime earning the Fraternal Order of Police’s Legislator of the Year for 2022.

Syme is a fiscal conservative who sat on the budget committee where conservative budgeting led to the budget surpluses Idahoans experienced during his tenure. “One of the things I am most proud of is scrutinizing budgets to ensure state agencies only spent what was required.” Syme said. “It required a little more work on my part to keep budgets in line, but that is what the people elected me to do – work hard for them.”

Colonel Syme served for 32 years in the United States Army and Army Reserve, including two deployments to Iraq. For his service in Iraq he was awarded the Bronze Star. In his announcement, Syme referenced his military background as part of what drives him to once again seek a seat in the Idaho Legislature; “My service to the nation for 32 years has ingrained in me that service comes before self.”

Syme’s priorities include a quality education in Idaho, being tough on crime, keeping doctors in Idaho, making improvements to infrastructure with a focus on US 95 in his district and ensuring a fiscally responsible government to combat inflation.

Syme and his wife, Patti, own a small business in Caldwell. Syme, a 5th generation Idahoan, was born and raised on his family’s farm in Weiser. They have four children who attended local public schools and 9 grandchildren. He is a graduate of the College of Idaho with a BA in Business Administration.
