From: Washington Co. Emergency Management, Steve Domby, Director

This winter is being called, less than affectionately, Snowmaggedon or Snowpocalypse due to the seemingly never ending series of snowstorms and below freezing temperatures. The recent freezing rain has complicated the problems.  The buildup of snow on roofs has already caused roofs on several smaller buildings in the county to collapse.  Most recently the roof of our local bowling alley collapsed under the weight of the snow.
It is important to get snow off of roofs that may be susceptible to collapse including sheds, out buildings, carports and any older building that may not meet snow load codes.  There are people who can be hired for such jobs.  To get a referral of someone who can do snow roof removal, call the City of Weiser offices at 414-1965.
Also slow down when driving on city streets.  The recent frozen rain falling on top of snow covered roads has created very slick and hazardous conditions.  Melting during the day and refreezing at night will not make the situation better.  Please drive with the utmost caution, especially when approaching uncontrolled intersections and all stop sign regulated intersections.  Even 4-wheel drives do not have 4-wheel stop.
