Weiser, Idaho – Weiser High School’s basketball program celebrated a significant milestone as senior Josh Mizar officially signed his letter of intent to play basketball at Northwestern Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.
In a signing ceremony held at Weiser High School, Mizar, surrounded by red and black balloons representing the school colors, made his commitment official. The standout athlete has been a cornerstone of the Wolverines’ basketball program, serving as both the team’s leading scorer and leading rebounder during his senior campaign.
Weiser High School basketball coach Ron Shirts shared a touching story about Mizar’s character, revealing that before Senior Night, Josh selflessly asked if another teammate could start in his place. This gesture exemplifies the leadership qualities that made him not only a valuable player on the court but also a respected teammate.
“A lot of nights Josh and his dad would be in the gym doing tough workouts,” Coach Shirts recalled. “A lot of times it would be where I’d have to go home and tell them ‘Hey I gotta shut the doors, get out of here and turn off the lights’ – literally wanted to shoot the lights out.”
The signing represents years of dedication and hard work paying off for the Weiser athlete, whose commitment to improving his game often extended well beyond regular practice hours. Mizar will now take his talents to NNU’s program, where he’ll compete at the collegiate level while continuing his education closer to home.
Mizar’s signing is the latest achievement for Weiser High School’s athletic program, which continues to develop college-level talent across multiple sports.
