Letter To The Editor: M Curry

The results of the March 14,2023 vote on school levys and bonds should be a wake up call to our government. Almost all Idaho County’s initiatives failed. Currently, the Idaho legislature has been talking about property tax and school funding.I feel all residents want safe and properly funded schools. However, residents look at Idaho’s 1.4 billion dollar surplus and wonder why the excessive taxation can’t be used to fund schools and or reduce property taxes. A paradigm exists! Property values in Idaho have increased. Thus, property taxes have increased. A short term fix would be to raise the property tax exemption. However, these schools need funding and the the government must find a new way to fund schools. A dedicated sales tax and or a income tax percentage could be a fix.
