Letter to the Editor-PAYETTE’S FIRE SIREN DISABLED-Cody May

Hey guys,

I usually don’t post much on Facebook but on Monday our fire siren was disabled. After speaking with the Mayor, he informed me that if there were enough people that wanted it re-enabled he would gladly do so. The siren has been apart of our community since 1946 I believe. It while being an out dated way of notifying fire personnel still serves a purpose. If our pagers are inside and we get a call we no longer can rely on listening for it. Yes we get a text message about the call but the text doesn’t state that the call was toned out. Some fire alarms are toned out some aren’t, the siren helps us distinguish if it was or wasn’t. The siren has been a staple of this community longer than most citizens have been. There is no financial up keep to the siren. I’ve been working at Payette Fire since 2013 and have never heard of a complaint about the sirens use. There were so many times as a kid I’d hear the siren and think it was the coolest thing ever. Now having a young family my daughter knows that when the siren goes off daddy is going to help someone. I’m hoping that by making this post that it will generate enough positivity in favor of the siren being re-enabled. You can reach out to the Mayor via 208-739-2428 or you can email him at mayor@cityofpayette.com. If you don’t feel comfortable doing either of those options please comment and I’ll be sure that the Mayor gets your comment if it’s opposed or in favor. I encourage you to share this post.
