Nancy Louise Peck Locey-Obituary

Nancy Louise Peck Locey, 94, of Weiser, Idaho passed away at her home on March 28, 2024 after a brief illness.

Nancy was born on July 18, 1929, in Madison, South Dakota. She was the only child of her loving parents, Margaret and Howard Peck. As a young child, she and her family moved to McCall, Idaho, where Nancy attended school in the McCall Donnley school system. She liked to tell the story of how, in the fall of 1946, she met a good looking young man by the name of Roy Locey, who lived in Weiser. As the story goes, after spending a nice evening with him, she managed to “drop” her wallet in his car so he would have to return it to her. And return it he did, in the spring of the following year. Over the next few months, they became closer and closer and they were married on September 17, 1947.

Nancy and Roy moved to Weiser where they eventually settled into the family home, where they raised their children, Bob and Susan and both lived for the rest of their lives.

Shortly after their marriage, Roy and Nancy purchased a lot on Payette Lake.  They built a one room cabin, which they expanded when their children were born. Each year on the last day of school, Nancy would be waiting at the end of the school sidewalk, car loaded with the dogs and all of the summer gear. She would swoop up the kids and off they would go to the cabin. Roy would fly up to join them every weekend and on Wednesday evenings. They would spend the entire summer at the lake, swimming, water skiing, fishing, boating, and entertaining their friends and family that came to visit. Then, on the day that school started, they would get up very early in the morning and Roy would fly the children back to school in Weiser as Nancy drove her loaded car back home. Nancy continued to spend summers at cabin throughout her life and had already begun packing her suitcase in anticipation of yet another summer at her favorite place.

Nancy was always up for an adventure. While living in McCall she enjoyed horseback riding, swimming, and snow skiing. Later, she and Roy spent many happy years motorcycle riding, taking trips in their plane and eventually, traveling in their motor home. They spent a great deal of time at the Oregon and Washington coast and loved being in Arizona for the winters.

Nancy is survived by her son, Bob Locey (Barb), daughter, Susan Warren (Bill), her grandchildren, Spring Collins (Andy), Dawn Locey (Travis), Robin Locey, Kristin Johnson, Erin Garrison (Andrew), and Katie Smeaton (Brian), and her 17 great-grandchildren.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her great grand-child.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 5 at 1 p.m. at Lienkaemper-Thomason Funeral Home in Weiser.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital.
