Local Graduate Gregory Reyes Crowned Homecoming King for University of Idaho

By C. Lawrence

Gregory Reyes, 22 years old, was raised in Weiser by his parents Linda Aguiar and Javier Juarez.  He graduated from Weiser High School back in 2017 and then left Weiser to attend the University of Idaho.  While the U of I was not his first choice, he quickly became hooked by the feeling of community and support he experienced.  “Doors became open, from working as a tour guide representing my University, to joining an amazing fraternity and above all becoming a part of the Vandal Family,” Reyes explained.

Reyes has been working on his architecture major for the past four years.  He has had the unique opportunity to study abroad in Rome.  He said that experience really sharpened his critical thinking skills and honed his artistic abilities.  Reyes shared his gratitude for the incredible opportunities he has been offered through the University.  “I have been able to grow as a young adult while sharing my story with potential new students, families, and many more,” he said.

Recently, Reyes was awarded Homecoming King of the University of Idaho!  Feeling incredibly honored by this, Reyes explained that he has felt so encouraged and respected among his peers and the community.  He is proud of the accomplishment and is grateful for all the love he has received from the nomination, to the interviews, and being voted as the winner.  “I could not be more grateful for this win and have so much love and respect for this place I call home.  Finding a community that actually values and supports you takes time and effort.  But when you find your home, cherish the time spent and the memories made for as long as possible.  As always, GO VANDALS!”
