On January 13th, 2024, Elks Lodge #1690 in Ontario held its annual First Responders Community Service Awards banquet

During this banquet, prime rib was served, fellowship grew, and the following first responders were honored:

Fallen officer Corporal Joseph Johnson of Nyssa.

Law Enforcement of the Year – Travis Weber Canyon County Sheriff Deputy.

Firefighter of the Year – Jordan Watts, Ontario Fire Department.

Paramedic of the Year – David Lopez of the Ontario Fire Department.

Support Person of the Year – Marty Heisig Volunteer Fire Department.

Doctor of the year – Augustine Okeke of St Alphonsus Hospital.

Nurse of the Year – Sherry Devos of St Alphonsus Hospital.

Citizen of the Year – Mary Danison.

Elk’s members within the community are volunteers who support veterans, national memorial state projects, children through scholarships, hoop shoots, drug awareness, the American essay contest, dictionary project, and antlers program.

The Elks Lodge members of Ontario consist of Malheur and Payette counties.

The Elks program was founded in New York on February 16, 1868, and their mission is to inculcate the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization, and to provide for its government, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America will serve the people and communities through benevolent programs, demonstrating that Elks Care and Elks Share.
