Let’s give a warm Weiser welcome to Finding Feathers, a new gift shop that opened in October here in Weiser. Owner and operator, Brandy Thomas is an Idaho native who moved to the area about two years ago. She has been making homemade gifts for some time now, but up until recently has only sold her goods during events and vendor opportunities. “We decided to take a leap and open a storefront in October. It’s been a little slow but it’s going well and we’ve had a good response. I think we have had a good start,” stated Thomas.
Thomas shared that her shop has many different gift options such as quilt and flower shadow boxes for mothers day, custom tiles for holidays, ornaments, coffee cups, tea towels, keychains, earrings and more. She also does custom shirts which she shared were probably her best selling items. Thomas also makes unique toys for children with sensory needs. “A lot of those items are harder to find in smaller towns and usually at a budget most families struggle with.”
Her love for her children is the reason behind Thomas creating her business. She shared, “A big thing for me is that I have two medically complex kids who in the future are not going to be able to work in a normal workplace. So my ultimate goal is to establish a business for us that can be self-sufficient, where I can teach my kids life skills that they would have a hard time finding somewhere else. I feel like if I devote my time to our own business I can support them in the best way possible and then hopefully grow our business to be able to employ them in the future.”
Finding Feathers is located at 28 West Idaho and is open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm. Finding Feathers will be one of the local shops open and participating in the Shop Small event in Weiser on November 20th through the 25th sponsored by the Weiser Chamber of Commerce.
