Sterling Blackwell and Alicia Cavazos for Weiser City Council (Paid Advertisement)

Sterling Blackwell is running for a seat on the Weiser City Council.  Currently a teacher at Fruitland High School and adjunct faculty member at TVCC, Blackwell has lived in Idaho for 20 years, and a resident of Weiser for the past 8 years.  He shared that he loves the small hometown feel of Weiser, the community members, and friendships he has made here.

Anyone who knows him knows that Blackwell loves people and serving others in the community.  He is also the owner and operator of Re. Theater and Sterling Shaved Ice, which are side businesses that occupy his time when not teaching.  He strives to support the community in a variety of ways, and with a love for the arts and theatrical production, Blackwell often involves himself in organizations that can utilize his skills and experience.

When asked why he is running for Weiser City Council, Blackwell shared that he wants the opportunity to bring a younger generation of representation to the council.  “Weiser is important to me.  It’s as simple as that.  When something is important to you, you want to take care of it,” as quoted on his campaign website.  Blackwell strives to educate, inspire, and serve the community by listening to the concerns of Weiser residents and help find a solution that is best.

Sterling Blackwell and Alicia Cavazos are running a campaign together.  When asked why, Blackwell shared that they’ve been good friends for a long time.  They have worked together and get along really well.  Initially, Cavazos was not going to run again for City Council, but that suddenly changed and when Blackwell learned of it, they decided to run together to support one another and share the cost of campaigning.

Alicia Cavazos, a Weiser native, is running for re-election on the Weiser City Council.  A gut feeling compelled Cavazos to begin planning her re-election campaign.  The support she has experienced over the last 4 years on the Weiser City Council has built up an excitement for the upcoming election that she hopes will bring a fresh start to a new term with more opportunity to make positive change.  With the experience under her belt and a new outlook, she is proud to be a Weiserite running for re-election.

Cavazos is a realtor with North Star Realty Team at Select Properties, LLC and is the owner and director of Dance Extreme 2.0.  She is an open-minded person who represents strong leadership abilities and strong representation for the community of Weiser.  She is intelligent, knowledgeable and open-minded when it comes to brainstorming ideas, listening to the thoughts and concerns of others, and assisting with creating plans and executing them.

Having grown up in Weiser, Cavazos has a great appreciation for what small town life has to offer.  Our community has a closeness that is hard to beat anywhere else and she strives to protect “Weiser’s charismatic charm,” as beautifully quoted by Cavazos when talking about the people of Weiser.
