The Elks Celebrates Flag Day In Weiser

On June 14th, 2023, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) held a grand Flag Day Celebration at their Lodge located at 38 W Idaho St in Weiser, Idaho. This annual event has a rich history within the organization, with the BPOE being the first fraternal organization to celebrate Flag Day even before it became a nation-wide practice by legal decree.

The idea of a Flag Day Service was initially proposed to the Order by the Grand Exalted Ruler during the 1907 Grand Lodge Session held in Philadelphia. Among the dates suggested for consideration at that time, June 14th was adopted by the session and named “Elks Flag Day.” The following year, in Dallas, the Grand Lodge officially approved a ritual for the Flag Day ceremony, emphasizing the importance and significance of honoring the flag.

It wasn’t until August 3rd, 1949, that President Harry S. Truman, who himself was an Elk, signed Public Law 203, designating June 14th as Flag Day for the entire nation. However, long before this legal decree, the BPOE had already made the Flag Day ceremony mandatory within their organization, showcasing their commitment to patriotism and American values.

The Flag Day ritual conducted by the Elks is a typically held as a public ceremonial, it aims to provide both information and inspiration to the attendees. The ceremony’s creates a memorable experience for all involved. The BPOE’s dedication to ensuring that the ceremony remains informative and uplifting reflects their reverence for the flag and the principles it represents.

In addition, members of Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps also contributed to the event by presenting the flag during the ceremony. Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps, known for their commitment to youth development and character building, have joined forces with the Elks Lodge to pay tribute to the flag and its symbolism.

The involvement of Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps members adds a special touch to the Flag Day Celebration. These young individuals, guided by the principles of leadership and community service instilled in them during their camp experiences, proudly participate in presenting the flag as a symbol of unity and patriotism. Their contribution highlights the collaborative effort between different organizations and the shared commitment to nurturing the values that the American flag represents.

By involving the members of Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps, the Flag Day Celebration becomes a platform for intergenerational engagement, where the enthusiasm and passion of the youth meet the wisdom and experience of the Elks Lodge members. This collaboration not only strengthens the bond within the community but also fosters a sense of pride and respect for the flag among the younger generation.

The partnership between the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps exemplifies the spirit of unity and dedication to service. Together, they aimed to create a memorable and meaningful Flag Day Celebration, honoring the flag, the nation, and the values that both organizations hold dear.
